Bradford Esprit Diving Club enjoyed a successful Irish Open Championships. Our team of 17 divers travelled to the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin to represent Bradford in an open competition for all abilities from novice, age group, elite juniors and seniors.
It was a fantastic tournament with our divers securing both personal bests and numerous medals across the team.
Our talented diver Holly Waxman led from the front setting a great example to the rest of the squad by bringing home a handful of medals. Firstly, Holly won silver on the one-metre springboard and then achieved gold in the open platform event claiming the title of National Open Platform Champion. Holly then capped off a remarkable tournament by winning a silver medal for the three-metre springboard event emphasising her position as one Great Britain’s top junior divers.
Owen Taylor and Abbie Hindle (both Group D) claimed one silver/two gold medals and a bronze respectively. Joseph Verity (Group E) seized a fabulous bronze medal, despite having an injury, which was later confirmed as a fractured foot (He’s on the mend now though!). Another gold was achieved by a disciplined performance from Owen Passmore in the Skills Group B.
Other divers in the team performed exceptionally well including Domi Hinchliffe, Gina Webb, Matilda Whitaker, Hannah Stanley, Phoebe Roe, Kate Curran, Hannah Hall, Georgina Whitaker, Harry Spencer, Ben Mullet, Joseph Nichol and Koben O’Driscoll.
The squad were coached by head coach Joe Meszaros and Dave Cowen who were always on hand at poolside to offer encouragement and advice. A special thank you should go to our parent chaperones Tracy Hindle and Stephanie Verity who were on hand to support the divers and ensure a good time was had by all.
