During December COBE elite divers Joseph Nicol, Koben O’Driscoll and Holly Waxman performed in the Scottish National Diving Championships at the Commonwealth Games Pool in Edinburgh. The competition included some of the UK’s best divers and provided a fabulous opportunity for the trio to see how they stack-up against the best.
Holly had a great tournament making the final in both the Womens 1m and Platform events. During the final of the 1m Holly set the tone with her first dive (forward 2 and ½ pike) achieving over 50 points. She then maintained her performance to win a bronze medal with an overall score of 224.10 providing the club with a podium finish.
On day 2, following some frantic late night training the day before, Joseph and Koben competed in the Boys Group B 1m, Final. Following a fabulous round of dives Joseph made the final with an overall score of 290.85 placing him in a very respectable fourth place. In the final Joseph kept his cool in what was a very competitive field and maintained his fourth place with a magnificent inward 1 and a ½ somersault pike scoring 46.8.
Koben was the youngest competitor in Edinburgh at 12 years of age competing against 15 / 16 year olds. On each day he competed strongly but on Day three he performed exceptionally well by making the final where he performed his best ever 2 and ½ inward somersault with tuck to finish 5th achieving a new personal best score of 348.45.
In the context of the overall expectations it should be noted that all divers more than held their own in-amongst some very talented, Commonwealth and Olympic divers and in some instances managed to outperform other elite divers representing who are representing Great Britain. Joe should be extremely pleased!
